Ken Johnson has been a professional artist for 55 years, selling his first painting at age 15. His international career has spanned 48 years, having had solo and non-solo exhibitions in Australia, Switzerland, New York, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Hong Kong, Luxembourg, Italy, London, Edinburgh, Norway, Syria, India, Portugal, Japan, Shanghai and Seoul.
Well known for his “Inset“ technique derived from Euclidean geometry and implemented in the mid 1970’s, his passion to create has taken him all over the world, often setting up and studying people and places with concerns for fragilities in cultures and ecology.
He has been collected by the National Museum of Damascus Syria, the Presidential Palace of Israel and numerous important international art collectors.
In Australia he has been twice selected as a finalist in the prestigious Archibald Portrait Prize, Wynne Prize for Landscape, Olive Cotton Photographic Award, Kedumba Prize for Drawing and The Gallipoli Prize.
He cites esteemed Australian artists Sir Russel Drysdale, Lloyd Rees and sculptor Bert Flugelman as mentors and personal teachers during his career.
Significant experiences include an Australian Geographic expedition to Antarctica to witness the new millennium, building a Free Medical Clinic and Learning Centre in the Himalayan region of India and his latest collaboration with international musicians in Portugal to record a music album.
In conversation he stresses the importance of keeping the equilibrium in nature and humanity and insists that his best creations have been his three children. He dedicates this monograph Anecdotes & Allegories to them, whilst covering his art practice from 2000-2020.
